Several hunting regulation changes have been proposed by the Department of Environmental Conservation. One involves using electronic hunting tags.
The D-E-C has proposed using electronic carcass tags for deer, bear, and turkey. Hunters would be able to choose to use a paper license and tags, as is currently available, or use the Hunt-Fish-New York mobile app as electronic immediate proof of licensure and possession and use of tags. For hunters who continue to use paper tags, this proposal would reduce the timeframe required to report a harvest from seven days to 48 hours, encouraging prompt reporting. The department is accepting comments on the proposed regulation changes through August 18th.
