The final Free Fishing Day in NY State is tomorrow. The date was picked to honor veterans.
The Free Fishing Days program began in 1991 to give people a chance to try the sport of freshwater fishing with no license. In addition, this year the DEC has partnered with libraries across the state to provide a free fishing rod lending program. The program offers an opportunity for people to try fishing before purchasing their own gear. In Clinton County the Dannemora Free Library is participating in the program. Participants are reminded that although on “Free Fishing Day” the license requirement is waived, all other fishing regulations remain in effect.
