A report regarding a sick moose that blocked public access to Goodman Mtn has been released.
A diagnostic report regarding a sick moose that blocked public access to Goodman Mountain trail in Tupper Lake this summer has been released by the DEC. While a specific cause of death could not be identified, the report prepared by Department of Environmental Conservation’s Wildlife Health Program, in coordination with Cornell University revealed that the moose was severely emaciated and suffered from lesions in the brain and a chronic condition, which resulted in slow deterioration of the animal and an inability to navigate effectively. As the animals’ condition further deteriorated it was euthanized when officials determined that was the best course of action.
