The Legal Aid Society reports that a preliminary injunction is in place regarding the HALT Act.
A preliminary injunction against the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision has been secured by the Legal Aid Society regarding a partial rollback of the HALT Act…That’s according to the prisoner rights organization. Antony Gemmell, Supervising Attorney with the Legal Aid Society, said the full HALT Act must now be followed. In reaction, Senator Dan Stec said the reason officials suspended parts of HALT was because of staffing shortages. That has not gone away. We still have a lot less COs in facilities and the National Guard is still there supplementing the state workforce. Reportedly, the State Supreme Court preliminary injunction starts this weekend.
