The Crown Point fish hatchery will close next year. The DEC says they'll take care of trout stocking in area.
The Department of Environmental Conservation will stock trout in Essex County waters after the closure of the Fish Hatchery in Crown Point next year. The DEC reported that it will assume trout stocking in eight ponded waters and six trout streams at up to 31 locations within Essex County. The Fish Hatchery was originally constructed by the State in the 1920s. The hatchery, which has been operated by Essex County since the mid-1980s, will cease its operations next year as it is no longer economically feasible to continue operations without costly upgrades to meet quality standards according to the DEC.
