Applications are now being accepted for the Federal heating assistance program know as HEAP.
New Yorkers can begin applying for heating assistance through the Home Energy Assistance Program state officials say. The program, known as HEAP, can provide up to $996 to eligible households. It is overseen by the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance in NY, and is 100 percent federally funded. The benefit amounts vary based on income, household size, heating source and if the household contains a vulnerable member. Reportedly, a family of four can have an annual gross income of just over $80,000 and still qualify for assistance. HEAP applications are accepted at local departments of social services and can also be submitted online and through the mail.
