Inmate Calls to be Free

The Department of Corrections will no longer charge inmates for phone calls to improve recidivism.

inmates at state correctional facilities are Currently charged 2.4 cents per minute for phone calls after they exceed three free 15-minute calls per week.  That’s about to change…Starting Friday state prisoners will no longer pay for calls. DOCCS Commissioner Daniel Martuscello said, “We continue to work on initiatives that better serve our prison population.”  Senator Dan Stec weighed in by saying “This is what the pro-criminal agenda looks like.”
