A Mohawk land claim extending four decades may be closer to a resolution state officials say.
A land claim issue, going on for more than 40 years, between the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe and area governments entities appears to be closer to a resolution. According to Senator Dan Stec, on Friday Governor Hochul signed off on a settlement that he helped fashion. Senator Stec said he’s now “looking forward to Congressional approval”. North Country Congresswoman, Elise Stefanik, said she will champion the ratification of this agreement through Congress. She also chastised the Governor for months of needless delay in signing the Settlement.
