A bill that would allow medically aided suicide passed the NY Assembly.
A bill that allows self-administered medication for the purpose of hastening a terminally ill patient's death is a step closer to becoming law in New York State as it was passed in the Assembly on Tuesday. The bill has critics such as Assembly Minority Leader, Will Barclay, who strongly opposed it saying Assembly Democrats have taken "a dangerous step that carries irreparable consequences." Approval from the state Senate and Governor is needed for the act to become law. Some say that's not likely to happen this legislative session.
