Hunters in NY harvested nearly a quarter of a million deer in the recent hunting season the DEC reports.
Statewide, the deer harvest report shows a 9% increase in antlered buck harvest and a 3% increase in antlerless deer harvest from last season. However, the total deer harvest was slightly below the five-year average. In the local tri-county area, the estimated total deer take in Clinton County was just over 1400 while the Essex County estimate was a little over 1500 and Franklin County had the most with more than 2800 deer. Overall, in the Western Finger Lakes and Ontario Plains regions reported the highest harvest densities, with more than 10 deer harvested per square mile.
