The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles Operation Prevent aims to stop underage drinking.
More than 300 young people in NY were cited during summer concerts for attempting to buy alcohol with fake IDs according to the Department of Motor Vehicles. The citations are part of the DMV’s annual Operation Prevent enforcement detail. The initiative seeks to prevent the use of fake IDs while also discouraging underage drinking and driving. This year, 313 people were cited, and 343 fake IDs were seized. The DMV operation involves local law enforcement and the Liquor Authority. The problem is not going away as this year’s numbers are similar to last year, when 307 people were cited and 349 fake IDs were seized.
