The Near Record Powerball jackpot last weekend generated millions for NYS schools and retailers.
Even though Saturday’s Powerball jackpot of nearly $1.8 billion was won elsewhere, New Yorkers still benefited. Gaming Commission Chair, Brian O’Dwyer, said massive jackpots generate increased sales that benefit NY schools and retail businesses. The state lottery reports that ticket sales generated $64.3 million for public schools and $11 million in commissions for lottery retailers during the three-month rollup. The State sold 110 winning Powerball prizes ahead of the big jackpot pay off. A $50-Thousand-dollar ticket was sold at Hannaford in Plattsburgh.
