The Health Department has issued an updated standing order regarding RSV Vaccines at pharmacy's.
State Health Commissioner, Dr. James McDonald, has updated the statewide order allowing pharmacists to administer the RSV vaccinations to eligible individuals. The order now recommends a one-time RSV vaccination for:
- Adults 75 years and older.
- Adults 50-74 with underlying medical conditions.
- Those who are between 32-36 weeks of pregnancy.
Dr. McDonald said RSV is an illness mostly seen in the fall and winter. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each year in the U.S., RSV leads to approximately 6,000 to 10,000 deaths among adults 65 years of age and older.
