The cuts include massive layoffs, regional office closures, and service disruptions such as delays in getting benefits and long phone wait times, which have already caused difficulties for seniors and disabled individuals. Schumer blasted Musk's characterization of Social Security as a "Ponzi Scheme," calling it outrageous and emphasizing that people paid into the system throughout their careers.
