Small business Saturday is this week following black Friday. It's an opportunity for local communities to support independent businesses. This initiative, founded by American Express in 2010 and cosponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration since 2011, encourages shopping at local retail shops and dining at nearby eateries. Last year American shoppers spent an estimated $22 billion on Small Business Saturday.
