A land trust reached a deal with CAS at SUNY Plattsburgh to purchase Twin Valleys outdoor center.
College Auxiliary Services at SUNY Plattsburgh reached an agreement to sell its outdoor education center, Twin Valleys, in Lewis, N.Y., to the conservation land trust Champlain Area Trails. According to college officials, the center was purchased in 1944. It has been used by SUNY Plattsburgh faculty, staff, students and the community as an outdoor science lab. Known as one of the darkest spots in the U.S. because of the lack of ambient “light pollution,” it became a favorite spot of renowned astronomer, Dr. David Levy, co-discoverer of Shoemaker-Levy 9, the comet that collided with Jupiter in 1994. Levy attended summer science camp at Twin Valleys as a teen. The Twin Valleys Center sits on over 675 acres and has 15 miles of established trails.
