Officials Placed On Leave After Photos Show ‘Time Out Box’ At Ontario Elementary School

Monday, December 22, 2025 at 7:02 PM

Several staff members at St. Regis Mohawk School in Akwesasne, Ontario have been placed on administrative leave following community outrage over photos of a wooden "time out box" allegedly used on students. The Salmon River Central School District launched an independent investigation after parent Chrissy Jacobs posted the images to Facebook Monday. Four parents told police their children "identified the box and said they were put in that box," according to Jacobs. Thomas Hathaway said his 8-year-old partially non-verbal son Connor was placed inside the container. Board president Jason Brockway issued an apology, stating "We recognize the pain, concern, and distress these events have caused, and we are truly sorry for the harm and trauma this has resulted for our community." The school switched to remote learning for the week. (Story URL)
