On Inc., a Swiss shoe manufacturer with North American headquarters in Portland, faces a federal class action lawsuit over squeaking sneakers. Law firm Markowitz Herbold filed the case last week in Portland federal court, claiming On's CloudTec technology produces "a noisy and embarrassing squeak with each and every step." Two plaintiffs target 11 Cloud-branded products, alleging the CloudTec outsoles are defective and cause squeaking during walking and running. The affected shoes cost between $140 and $180 per pair. The lawsuit claims On knows about the problem but excludes squeaking from warranty coverage. "Consumers have reported being left in the lurches as Defendant has categorized the squeaking as normal wear and tear," the suit states. One customer complaint included in the lawsuit reads: "Lol my nickname at work is squeak." The suit seeks a jury trial but doesn't specify damages. (Story URL)
