Sovereignty won the 151st Kentucky Derby, earning a $3.1 million prize with jockey Junior Alvarado. Journalism, Baeza, and Final Gambit were other top finishers. Sovereignty had 9-1 odds, with Journalism as the favorite at 7/2. The Kentucky Derby is the first of the Triple Crown races, followed by the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes. (Variety)


Billionaire investor Warren Buffett announced his retirement and recommended Greg Abel as his successor at Berkshire Hathaway. The decision was revealed at the annual meeting in Omaha. Buffett, Berkshire Hathaway's largest shareholder, emphasized faith in the American economy amid market uncertainty caused by tariffs. (UPI)


President Trump announced plans to reopen and expand Alcatraz, the former notorious prison on a San Francisco-area island, to house America's most violent criminals. He cited the need for stricter punishment for dangerous offenders and emphasized the symbolism of law, order, and justice. Alcatraz is currently a popular tourist site. (AP)


President Trump expressed uncertainty in an interview about immigrants' constitutional right to due process, stating he's not a lawyer and doesn't know. He mentioned that his lawyers would follow the Supreme Court's guidance and reiterated his intention to serve one term and pass the presidency to a Republican successor. (UPI)


Skype will be closed by Microsoft today in favor of the Teams video conferencing platform. Teams offers similar core features as Skype and additional capabilities such as hosting meetings and calendars. The decision comes as Teams' user base and usage minutes have increased significantly, while Skype's user base has declined. (UPI)
