A Boeing plane carrying 242 people crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, India, killing all but one passenger and 18 people on the ground. The apparent sole survivor, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British national of Indian origin, was found dazed but alive. The plane, a 787 Dreamliner, was headed for London when it crashed into a medical college and a residential building. (NBC News)


The House narrowly approved a White House request to claw back $9.4 billion in funding, including cuts to NPR, PBS, and international aid programs. The package now heads to the Senate, where it faces opposition from some Republicans. The vote was largely along party lines, with House Republicans supporting the measure and Democrats opposing it. California Senator Alex Padilla was forcibly removed and handcuffed by federal agents as he attempted to ask a question at a press conference held by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in Los Angeles. Padilla, a vocal critic of the Trump administration's immigration policies, said he had been seeking more information from the DHS but had not received a response. (The Guardian)


A JetBlue flight rolled off the runway and into the grass during landing at Boston Logan Airport. No injuries were reported, and passengers were safely transported to the terminal. The Federal Aviation Administration ordered a ground stop for all flights at the airport as the aircraft was assessed. (CBS News)


Americans spent an estimated $77.6 billion on tips for food purchased at restaurants, bars, and other eateries in 2023. New Hampshire residents are the top tippers in the country, leaving an average gratuity of 16.07%, while Utah has the lowest average tipping rate at 4.09%. Tipping rates tend to be higher in states where people eat out more frequently. (CBS News)
