An unknown individual or group used AI to impersonate Secretary of State Marco Rubio and contacted at least five high-level government officials in mid-June. The culprit was apparently hoping to gain access to sensitive information or accounts. The fake Rubio reached out to three foreign ministers, a U.S. governor, and a member of Congress. (Story URL)


The IRS announced that it will no longer penalize churches for endorsing political candidates, disregarding a tax code provision that could strip their tax-exempt status. That provision, which was established by Congress over 50 years ago, prohibits political campaign activity by charities and churches. The decision is pending final approval. (Story URL)
