IRONMAN Lake Placid Returns Sunday

More than 2,600 athletes from 68 countries will compete in the IRONMAN Lake Placid triathlon Sunday. The 140.6-mile race includes a swim in Mirror Lake, a 112-mile bike ride through the Adirondacks and a marathon finishing at the Olympic Oval. The first race begins shortly after 6:15 a.m.

  • Paul Smith’s College Names Troops to Timber Coordinator

    Paul Smith’s College has named military veteran and forestry professional Rick Rowe as coordinator of its Troops to Timber initiative. Rowe will recruit veterans and help prepare them for forestry careers through hands-on training, credentials and job placement. The program is part of the college’s expanding Battlefish Academy.

  • Cashman Backs Pause on New Data Centers

    Assemblyman Michael Cashman is supporting the governor’s executive order temporarily pausing new data center development in New York. Cashman says the move gives lawmakers time to create protections for residents and the environment. He says data centers could strain North Country land, water and electricity supplies while contributing to higher utility costs.

  • Little Falls Cheese Festival Set for Oct 3

    The Little Falls Cheese Festival returns Saturday, Oct 3, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. along Main Street. The free event will feature New York cheeses, gourmet foods, craft beverages, live music and food trucks. New this year are guided cheese tastings. Free parking and shuttle service will also be available.
