Newcomb Financial Records Criticized In State Audit

State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says an audit found the Town of Newcomb failed to maintain complete and accurate accounting records and financial reports. Auditors say the problems made it difficult for town officials to determine the town’s true financial condition, limiting informed financial decisions and creating taxpayer inequities.

Forest Rangers Busy With Adirondack Rescues

State Forest Rangers handled several rescues across the Adirondacks last week, including helping stranded kayakers on the Saranac River, rescuing an injured camper at Newcomb Lake and assisting a hiker trapped on a rock at Auger Falls. Rangers also helped stabilize a capsized sailboat on Lake Champlain.
Three Charged In Plattsburgh Child Abuse Investigation

Three former employees of the Bright Beginnings Childcare Center in Plattsburgh are charged following an investigation into alleged child abuse. Dillon Bronson faces eight counts of endangering the welfare of a child and two assault charges. Autumn Stone and Amanda Rizzo are accused of failing to report suspected abuse. Authorities say additional charges are pending.
CVPH Foundation Announces Free Summer Concerts

The Foundation of CVPH is inviting the community to two free summer concerts on the hospital’s front lawn in Plattsburgh. LP Acoustic performs July 30, followed by All Without the Bass on September third. Both concerts begin at 6 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.
Lake Placid Man Charged After Fireworks Incident

Forty-one year old Nicholas Moran of Lake Placid is charged with disorderly conduct after police say he lit fireworks in the middle of Hillcrest Avenue, blocking traffic. The incident happened July fifth. Moran was arrested and issued an appearance ticket for a later court date.
Cashman Calls For Prison Safety Reforms

North Country Assemblyman Michael Cashman is calling for action following a state report on New York’s correctional system. Cashman says correction officers continue to face low morale, staffing shortages and unsafe working conditions.
