Plattsburgh City Beach Closed to Swimmers

Plattsburgh City Beach is closed to swimming after a water sample collected Monday showed elevated levels of E. coli bacteria. The beach remains open to visitors, but no one will be allowed in the water until further notice. City workers will test the water daily until results show it is safe for swimming.

    The Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department has received the Heart of Potsdam Award from the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce. The honor was presented during the 2026 Potsdam Summer Fest and recognizes the department’s emergency response, community service and support of local events. Several other organizations were also nominated for their work in the community.

  • Potsdam School Wins Two State Agriculture Challenges

    Trout and Heron Independent School in Potsdam has won first place in two statewide New York Agriculture in the Classroom contests. Students earned top honors in the Ice Cream Challenge and the Mac and Cheese Challenge. The projects combined science, nutrition and agriculture while teaching students how dairy products move from farms to tables.

  • Lyons Road Closed for Culvert Project

    Lyons Road in Peru is closed between Rock Road and South Junction Road through Sept. 21 while crews replace a large box culvert. The closure is between house numbers 225 and 232. No through traffic will be allowed, including emergency vehicles, and drivers are being advised to use an alternate route.
