• Car Fire Spreads to Peru Garage

  A vehicle fire spread to a garage at a home on Lapham Mills Road in Peru Wednesday afternoon, sending smoke over the Northway. Firefighters say the blaze took about 45 minutes to bring under control. No injuries were reported, and the cause remains under investigation.

• Adirondack Land Trust Protects 2,390 Acres

  The Adirondack Land Trust has purchased 2,390 acres in the Essex County town of Chesterfield for permanent conservation. The Drake Mountain property includes forests, ponds, streams and wetlands, and will eventually be transferred to New York State for public recreation, including hiking, hunting and birdwatching.

• Chuck Lorre Gives Another $1 Million to SUNY Potsdam

  Television producer and SUNY Potsdam alumnus Chuck Lorre is giving another $1 million to his alma mater through the Chuck Lorre Family Foundation. The gift will expand student success programs, including first-year support, academic advising and retention initiatives, doubling Lorre’s original $1 million donation in 2024.

• Lake Champlain To Host Major Bass Tournament

  Major League Fishing is bringing the Bass Pro Tour back to Lake Champlain in 2027. The four-day tournament will be held April 29th through May 2nd in Plattsburgh, with 50 of the sport’s top anglers competing for prize money, championship points and a spot in the REDCREST 2028 championship.

• Ogdensburg Business Earns State Veteran Certification

  An Ogdensburg company is among 20 businesses newly certified as Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Businesses by New York State. Liberty Pro Wash received the designation from the Office of General Services, making it eligible for expanded opportunities to compete for state contracts under the veteran-owned business program.
