Americans Donate $4 Billion On GivingTuesday, Up From Last Year

Thursday, December 4, 2025 at 7:01 PM

American donors contributed $4 billion to nonprofits during GivingTuesday 2025, rising from $3.6 billion in 2024. Volunteer participation also increased, with 11.1 million Americans volunteering on December 2nd compared to 9.2 million last year. The annual giving day occurs on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and serves as a major fundraising event for charitable organizations. GivingTuesday chief data officer Woodrow Rosenbaum attributes the growth to people seeking connection and belonging. "Generosity is a really powerful way to get that," Rosenbaum told the AP. "But I think mostly it's just that when people see need, they want to do something about it and GivingTuesday is an opportunity to do that in a moment of celebration as opposed to crisis."
