Shift's 2026 State Of Browsing Report found 62% of people suffer from repeated digital exhaustion. The survey of 1,000 U.S. adults identified constant notifications as the top cause at 24%, followed by social media overload at 23%. Nearly half of users say browsers distract them as often as they help focus. Younger generations struggle most, with 35% of Millennials regularly feeling burnt out compared to 31% of Baby Boomers who never experience burnout. Despite widespread frustration, 92% want personalized browsers and 81% are willing to switch for better control. Users spend most desktop browsing time on personal activities at 40% versus 26% for work. The study shows 43% lose focus several times daily, with 13% losing 30 minutes or more per distraction.
