Exposure to heat can accelerate the leaching of toxic compounds like antimony and bisphenol-A (BPA) from plastic bottles. One study found these toxins increased with storage temperature, especially above 158°F. Researchers advise against storing plastic water bottles in warm environments, as even moderate heat can release harmful microparticles. Microscopic plastic particles, or nanoplastics, are of particular concern as they can enter the bloodstream and brain.
