Swedish researchers found eating high-fat cheese and cream may reduce dementia risk. The research tracked nearly 27,700 people with an average age of 58 for 25 years, during which over 3,200 developed dementia. Those consuming 50 grams or more of high-fat cheese daily showed 13% lower dementia risk than those eating less than 15 grams. High-fat cream consumers had 16% lower risk. "Our study found that some high-fat dairy products may actually lower the risk of dementia, challenging some long-held assumptions about fat and brain health," said senior researcher Emily Sonestedt from Lund University. The study found no protective effects from low-fat dairy products. However, researchers noted the design cannot prove causation, only association between high-fat dairy consumption and reduced dementia rates. (Story URL)
