New research shows 30% of adults will celebrate Friendsmas this year, with December 20 emerging as the preferred date. The study of 2,000 adults found the friend-focused Christmas alternative is especially popular among Gen Z, with 45% planning to participate. More than a third of Gen Z adults consider Friendsmas equal to Christmas Day, while 11% actually prefer it over traditional family gatherings—double the rate of Baby Boomers at 5%. Nearly a quarter view the occasion as "more important" than other holiday traditions like Christmas lights or Secret Santa. Participants typically celebrate with five friends they know from work or school, spending an average of $86. The most popular activities include dining out together, Secret Santa exchanges, and Christmas-themed games. (Story URL)
