The NY Assembly voted to remove the "100 Foot Rule" Republicans say that will cost ratepayers while Democrats say it eliminates roadblocks to sustainable energy.
The Assembly passed legislation that would remove the “100-foot rule” that requires utilities to provide gas pipeline connections at no cost to customers within 100 feet of an existing gas main. North Country Assemblyman Matt Simpson voted “No” on repealing the “100-foot rule”. He said the legislation threatens to increase housing construction costs, raise utility bills, and undermine New York’s energy grid reliability. Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie accused Republicans of fearmongering and said the bill is about eliminating roadblocks to sustainable energy. Assemblyman Simpson warned that ratepayers are already faced with “raising utility bills due to misguided legislation, and this will only exacerbate the problem.”
