Warming temperatures have caused rapid changes in the high peaks and DEC is urging caution for hikers.
The Department of Environmental Conservation warns that recent warm temperatures in the Adirondacks are causing rapid, dynamic and intense changes in the High Peaks and backcountry. DEC Officials say water levels at stream crossings can rise throughout the day and become impassable on your way out, even if it was passable on your way in. They say hikers should be prepared to wait it out, even if it means an extra night camping.
