Flu in NYS

People with cases of the flu are being admitted to the hospital in record numbers statewide this year.

The NY State Department of Health announced that the state has experienced the highest number of flu hospitalizations ever recorded in a single week.  The Department's most recent data shows a total of 4,546 hospitalizations.  State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald said, "We are having a more severe flu season than prior years, almost a 1,000 more people were admitted to the hospital during this most recent 7-day period compared to the prior week".
