A renewed call to repeal HALT was made following 3 inmate deaths at New York State prisons last week.
Following three suspected homicides at State Correctional Facilities in the North Country region last week, Assemblyman Matt Smipson is calling for immediate repeal of HALT Act. Simpson said the Act was passed with the intention of protecting incarcerated individuals but, he said, it has instead created an environment of unchecked violence. The Assemblyman currently sponsors legislation to repeal these restrictions and restore the tools needed to protect everyone inside New York’s correctional facilities.
