The rollback of HALT at State Prisons is no longer in place according to a prisoner rights group.
A preliminary injunction against the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision has been secured by the Legal Aid Society regarding a partial rollback of the HALT Act…That’s according to the prisoner rights organization. Antony Gemmell, Supervising Attorney with the the Legal Aid Society said, “This decision reaffirms that no agency — regardless of political pressure —can unilaterally disregard laws.” The lawsuit was filed in April in New York State Supreme Court in Albany County on behalf of six people incarcerated in prisons across the state. The partial rollback was announced on February 20. Now, the Legal Aid Society says, the full HALT Act must be followed.
