The NYS Division of Consumer Protection is warning that holiday pet scams are a frequent occurrence.
According to the ASPCA, there are thousands of reports from consumers who have been scammed. The Better Business Bureau reports online pet advertisements continue to be a significant source of fraud. The Consumer Protection division suggests adopting a pet from a state registered Animal shelter, humane society or animal rescue. In Clinton County two locations are listed on the Department of Agriculture website. They are Elmore SPCA and Cats Rescue And Adoption Services.
