The DEC reported that a new satellite population of water chestnut was discovered in Plattsburgh

The new water chestnut outbreak was located near the City of Plattsburgh boat launch site at Wilcox Dock.  The DEC says it has been hand harvested.  The first confirmed case of water chestnut in the Plattsburgh area was reported in 2023 according to ENCON.  Most of the water chestnuts are found in the southern half of the lake where it is actively managed by NY, VT and the Lake Champlain Basin Program.
