Smartphone Ban

Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 7:04 AM

New survey results show that the state's smartphone ban is helping schools to teach more effectively.

The Governor’s Office distributed a survey to schools in November and received over 350 responses from administrators. 83% reported better student engagement since implementing a distraction-free policy.  75% said the ban has improved the school’s ability to teach effectively.  New York is reported to be the most populous state in the U.S. with a statewide, bell-to-bell restriction on classroom smartphone use.
