The NYS Department of State Division of Consumer Protection warns that springtime can be scam time.

Springtime can be “scam time” when it comes to home improvements according to the Division of Consumer Protection. They say, scammers will knock on your door suggest they’re in the area and to have materials left over from a previous job. Scammers will pressure you for an immediate decision. If a problem occurs a complaint can be filed with the Division of Consumer Protection or the Attorney Generals office.
