SUNY Plattsburgh Expands Recreational Sports Access to Faculty, Staff, and Alumni

Offering a wide range of recreational sports and programs, with access to everything from fitness centers to bike loans and club sports.

At SUNY Plattsburgh, recreational sports aren't just for students—faculty, staff, and alumni also have access to a variety of fitness and recreational offerings. Since 2019, the campus has implemented a mandatory rec fee that covers not just the fitness center but all recreational sports programs, including intramurals and equipment loan programs. Faculty and staff can borrow sports equipment, participate in activities like pickleball, and enjoy the fitness center’s expansive 12,000-square-foot space. The popular bike loan program, with new cruisers this season, and the addition of pickleball reflect the growing demand for recreational opportunities. Club sports such as esports, cheerleading, and hockey are also available to students, with the esports club seeing significant growth since its inception. Membership fees are affordable and range from $40 in the summer to $115 per semester for faculty, staff, and alumni, providing access to a full range of recreational programs. Via Sun Community News
