Trout Season

Trout season starts this week and the Department of Environmental Conservation has been busy stocking.

Wednesday April 1 is start of the trout fishing season. Trout stocking by the state in Clinton, Essex and Franklin Counties is in full swing. The DEC reports that more than 1.7 million catchable-size brook, brown, and rainbow trout are stocked in waters across the state from mid-March through early June. Most stream stockings include larger trout, 12 inches or more, as 10% of the total number. The season runs through October 15th.
