Colorado County Offering Free Corn After Highway Crash

Monday, September 1, 2025 at 8:00 PM

A semi-truck carrying sweet corn overturned on a Colorado highway early Thursday morning, spilling its load. The Custer County Sheriff's Office transported undamaged corn to the Wet Mountain Fire Protection District, where local residents were invited to collect the free produce. The roadway was cleared by 7 p.m., but officials warned drivers to use caution, as the remaining corn could attract deer to the highway. The crash occurred on Highway 69 at Mile Marker 69, just south of Hillside and north of Reed Road. The sheriff's office asked the public to avoid blocking the fire station's driveway while collecting the free corn. (UPI)
