Family Receives $5,000 ER Bill, Despite Son Never Seeing A Doctor

Sunday, September 14, 2025 at 8:01 PM

Nathan Jachimiec brought his 11-year-old son Ian to Good Samaritan Emergency Room in San Jose after the boy developed an unusual rash in May. The family gave Ian Benadryl and sought medical care as a precaution. "He's never had anything like this before so this was new for us as parents," said Jachimiec. While waiting, Ian's condition improved and the family attempted to leave. A staff member told them "wait, wait, you just can't go," according to Jachimiec. A triage nurse provided written instructions to continue Benadryl treatment, and the family departed. "My son was never even seen by that doctor," Jachimiec said after receiving a bill "over $5,000." However, after being called out by a local news station, the hospital subsequently wrote off the entire bill for the family. (Story URL)
