Clinton County Opens 50-Year-Old Time Capsules

Monday, October 26, 2026 at 3:21 AM

Clinton County officials got a surprise Friday when they opened time capsules sealed 50 years ago. What they thought was one box turned out to be ten. The boxes, originally sealed in 1976, were opened during a ceremony at the John H. Zurlo County Government Center. Former legislators Janet Duprey and Robert Garrow, who helped preserve the original materials, attended the event. A new time capsule was also sealed, containing records of life in 2026, including letters from Beekmantown Middle School students predicting what the world will look like in 50 years. The new capsule will be opened October 23, 2076. The original materials will be displayed at the Government Center over the coming months.
