Mange Outbreak Sickens Lake Placid Foxes

North Country Wild Care is responding to an outbreak of sarcoptic mange among red foxes in Lake Placid. Residents have reported animals with hair loss and thick, crusted skin from Stevens Road to Oneida Avenue. The highly contagious mite infection causes severe itching, skin infections and can be fatal in advanced cases.
