Morrisonville Septic Vows to Rebuild After Fire

The owners of Morrisonville Septic say they will rebuild after a fire destroyed the company’s main garage and several septic trucks near Cadyville. Storage units and some equipment were spared, allowing most operations to continue, although tank services may be limited. The cause remains under investigation.

Homelessness Falls Statewide but Rises Across Many Regions

New York’s homeless population fell nearly 8% between January 2024 and January 2025, according to State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli. The decline was driven mainly by New York City, while homelessness increased in 17 of the state’s 25 reporting regions. Children account for nearly one-third of the state’s homeless population.
Montreal Man Identified in Fatal Lake Champlain Drowning

Police have identified the man who drowned in Lake Champlain last week as 86 year old George Mitchell of Montreal. Mitchell was found July 14 along the western shore of North Hero. Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful. The Grand Isle County Sheriff’s Department says the medical examiner determined Mitchell died by accidental drowning.
