Plattsburgh City Police are warning residents about fraudulent online rental listings designed to steal money and personal information. Police say scammers often copy legitimate property photos, advertise rent below market value, pressure victims to act quickly and demand deposits before a property is viewed. Red flags also include requests for payment by wire transfer, gift cards, cryptocurrency or payment apps. Police recommend verifying ownership, seeing the property in person and reporting suspected scams immediately.
